Job Title: Chandlery Assistant

About The Role:
We are looking for a friendly, reliable, and adaptable Chandlery Assistant to join our retail team at Hartley Boats. As the welcoming face and voice of our shop, this is a varied role where you will be helping customers in-store and over the phone, managing marine stock, processing orders, and keeping the chandlery running smoothly.
More than anything, we are looking for someone with a great attitude who will fit right in with our team. If you are happy to get stuck in, deliver great customer service, and learn the ropes of marine retail, we can teach you the rest.
What You Will Be Doing:
- Answering phone inquiries: Handling a wide variety of calls - from selling sailing kit and boats to providing advice or handling customer concerns.
- Message taking and routing: Taking detailed, accurate notes and confidently passing complex queries or complaints to the right team member (you are never expected to handle anything you are uncomfortable with or don't know the answer to).
- Retail support: Serving customers in the chandlery shop, operating the till, and providing a welcoming environment.
- Order processing: Handling both in-store and online orders efficiently.
- Stock management: Managing stock levels, unpacking deliveries, sorting parts, and keeping the shop shelves beautifully merchandised.
- Team assistance: Occasionally assisting the wider boat-building team with day-to-day tasks when they need an extra pair of hands.
- Learning and advising: Getting to know our product ranges to provide helpful, basic advice to customers.
About You:
- A positive, "can-do" attitude with a genuine desire to help customers face-to-face and over the phone.
- A confident, polite telephone manner with excellent communication and note-taking skills.
- Friendly, approachable, and a great team player who knows when to ask for help.
- Reliable, hardworking, and highly organized with good attention to detail.
- Happy to shift between customer service tasks, phone calls, and hands-on stock management.
- Willing to learn new skills and get to grips with marine terminology.
- An interest in boating, sailing, or marine activities is a huge plus, making this an ideal role for a sailing enthusiast.

Job Title: Trainee Sail Maker
Full time (5 days/week)

About The Role:
We are looking for a friendly, reliable, and hands-on individual to join our dedicated sail loft team at Hartley Boats. This is a unique opportunity to learn a highly skilled marine craft, blending traditional techniques with modern technology. You will be trained from the ground up, helping to manufacture and finish high-quality sails and covers for our customers. If you enjoy practical work, have a keen eye for detail, and want to build a rewarding career where you can see the finished results of your hard work, we will provide all the training and support you need to succeed.
Aspects of the role include:
- All aspects of sail manufacture (training given)
- Cutting sails and covers with our CNC cutter (training provided)
- Finishing sails and accessories ready for customer orders
- Stock replenishment and production organisation
- Receiving and checking deliveries
- Keeping the loft clean, tidy, and well-organised
- Supporting the team with day-to-day loft operations
About You:
- Friendly and approachable
- Reliable and well-organised
- Attention to detail with an eye for quality
- Comfortable working in a production environment
- Enthusiasm to learn about all aspects of sail and cover manufacturing
- Previous experience is an advantage but not essential
- An interest in boating, sailing, fishing, or marine activities is a plus
